Richard Slack

Chief Executive OfficerMy love of rock and roll began in 1975 when I first heard KISS’s Dressed to Kill, followed soon after by KISS Alive! That music sparked a passion for hard rock and heavy metal that has stayed with me ever since.
Years later, while serving in the U.S. Army, I got my first chance to play bass and caught the itch to become a musician. After leaving the Army, I bought my first bass and began learning with the help and encouragement of fellow musicians.
Music eventually took a back seat to family, but the passion never went away. A few years ago, I picked up the bass again and rediscovered that same excitement. My playing remains firmly rooted in classic hard rock and heavy metal, proving it’s never too late to return to the music that moves you.

Born in Tucson, Arizona in 1967, I spent my early childhood in Connecticut before making my way to Colorado in the early ’80s. It was there, at a garage sale, that I held an electric guitar for the first time. It cost just ten dollars, but without ten dollars to my name, all I could do was hold it. From that moment, I knew someday I’d have one of my own.
Discovering AC/DC and Angus Young only fueled the fire. His musicianship, energy, and sheer mayhem on stage became a major inspiration. By the late ’80s and early ’90s, I was playing guitar in progressive metal bands throughout the Tampa Bay area.
After stepping away from music for a few decades, the drive to play eventually came roaring back. Reconnecting with former bandmate Richard, we dusted off old songs, revived unfinished ideas, and started writing the next chapter, the current incarnation of Pig Iron.
Zamil Valdes
Drums.
Zamil is a Mercurial, eccentric, multidimensional Time-Traveler often found communicating with the Unseen. A social introvert, quiet screamer, paradoxical Light Being.
Her first language was music and she taught herself to play many instruments, with drums being her first passion.
She's the Empathic Warrior that dances between the two Stones of Pig Iron, bridging gaps and transmuting pain and fury into rhythmic phrases.
She truly lives life to the beat of her own drum.
